Memphis, Tennessee – Residents across the Mid-South should prepare for a turbulent Wednesday night as a line of severe storms threatens to bring damaging winds and large hail to the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, the primary window for severe weather is between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday. A Slight Risk for severe storms, a Level 2 out of 5 threat, has been issued for cities including Memphis, Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Paragould, Arkansas. A broader Level 1 Marginal Risk covers areas farther east, including Nashville, Jackson, and Tupelo, Mississippi.

The main concern is the potential for damaging winds strong enough to knock down tree limbs and power lines, possibly causing property damage and scattered power outages. Large hail is the second primary threat, which could injure people outdoors and cause significant damage to vehicles and roofs.

While the storm motion is expected from northwest to southeast, heavy rain is also possible. Officials urge residents to secure loose outdoor objects like patio furniture, park vehicles under cover, and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts overnight.

These storms are expected to move out of the area before the Thursday morning commute. Warnings will remain active as the system progresses.
