Mid-Atlantic Weather Warning: Extreme Cold Hits Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. Overnight

Washington, D.C. – Dangerously cold temperatures and subzero wind chills are expected across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., overnight into Wednesday morning. Residents are urged to bundle up as wind chill values could dip as low as -12°F in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, temperatures will range from single digits to the teens, with wind chills making it feel even colder. Western Maryland and parts of the Shenandoah Valley, including Cumberland and Winchester, may experience wind chills as low as -15°F.

The advisory will remain in effect until 8 a.m. Wednesday. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes in these conditions. Officials recommend wearing multiple layers, avoiding prolonged outdoor exposure, and checking on vulnerable individuals.

Drivers should exercise caution, as icy spots may develop on untreated roads. Pets should also be brought indoors to prevent hypothermia. For updates, visit weather.gov.
