Marquette, MI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Marquette County until 7 p.m. Monday, with heavy lake effect snow expected to create hazardous travel conditions. Snowfall accumulations between 2 and 8 inches are anticipated, with the highest totals east of Big Bay through Negaunee and Skandia.
According to the National Weather Service, lake effect snow showers began early Monday and will continue throughout the day. Strong north winds, with gusts up to 25 mph, will cause blowing snow and reduce visibility on U.S. 41 and nearby roadways. Commuters should expect icy patches and slow-moving traffic during both morning and evening rush hours.
Temperatures will hover near 31°F Monday before falling to 21°F overnight. Tuesday will bring lighter snow showers with highs around 27°F, but roadways are likely to remain slick. By Wednesday, another system will deliver additional snow, with accumulations of 1 to 2 inches and wind gusts up to 20 mph, keeping travel conditions challenging.
Residents are urged to drive cautiously and allow extra time for travel. Keep emergency kits in your vehicles and monitor updates from local authorities. Snow is expected to taper off by Thursday, with partial clearing on Friday offering brief relief.
