Southwestern Michigan – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Berrien, Cass, and St. Joseph counties through Sunday night. Snow showers and freezing conditions are forecast to intensify, creating hazardous road conditions, especially along I-94 and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service, additional snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are expected Sunday evening into early Monday. Visibility could drop to less than a mile at times due to lake effect snow. Drivers should prepare for slick and untreated roads, particularly during the Monday morning commute.
Temperatures are expected to hover near freezing, increasing the likelihood of black ice on bridges and overpasses. Officials urge residents to drive with caution, reduce speeds, and allow extra time for travel.
The forecast for the coming days includes scattered snow showers on Monday, with a high of 32°F and lows dipping to the mid-20s. Conditions will remain cold and partly cloudy through midweek, with another chance of snow flurries Wednesday night.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed of updates and monitor road conditions through the Michigan Department of Transportation. Travelers should also keep an emergency kit in their vehicles, including blankets, water, and a flashlight, in case of delays or accidents.
Plan ahead and use extra caution if you’re traveling in or around Berrien, Cass, and St. Joseph counties this weekend.
