Grand Rapids, MI – Lake effect snow continues to affect west and southwest Michigan, with slippery conditions and reduced visibility expected throughout Tuesday. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. for areas including Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Kalamazoo, and Lansing.

According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations will range from 2 to 4 inches near the lakeshore, with up to 2 inches farther inland. Roads, including major routes like US-131 and I-96, are expected to be snow-covered and hazardous. Drivers should anticipate rapidly changing conditions, especially during the morning and evening commutes.

Travelers are urged to slow down, leave extra stopping distance, and carry an emergency kit in case of delays. Visibility may drop suddenly within snow bands, particularly in Muskegon, Holland, and Grand Haven.

Snow is expected to diminish in most areas by this evening, but slick roads could persist overnight as temperatures remain below freezing. Highs on Wednesday will hover around the mid-20s, with more lake effect snow possible later this week.

For road updates, Michigan residents should use the MDOT Mi Drive website or dial 511. Residents along the lakeshore and in west-central Michigan should prepare for travel delays and stay informed through local weather alerts.

Take precautions today and plan accordingly if heading out. Conditions can vary greatly over short distances, making awareness and preparation crucial.
