Grand Rapids, MI – Freezing rain has created hazardous travel conditions across much of central and west Michigan, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 11 a.m. Sunday.

The National Weather Service warns of additional ice accumulation up to one-tenth of an inch in areas including Grand Rapids, Muskegon, and Lansing. Local authorities have urged drivers to reduce speed and use caution, as roads remain icy and dangerous.

According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain began early Sunday morning, coating roadways and surfaces with slick ice. Communities such as Ottawa, Kent, and Ionia counties are experiencing particularly challenging conditions. Power outages may also occur due to ice buildup on power lines and tree limbs.

Travelers should plan for potential delays and avoid unnecessary trips until conditions improve later today. Emergency crews have been dispatched to manage any reported accidents and road closures.

Prepare for icy sidewalks and parking lots as well. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through weather updates and take precautions to ensure their safety.
