Gaylord, MI – Snow showers and gusty winds are set to hit Northern Michigan this weekend, bringing hazardous travel conditions to the Gaylord area. A series of systems will move through the region beginning Saturday, bringing light to moderate snow accumulations and potential drifting.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, snow showers will develop Saturday morning and persist through Monday night. Gusty winds, peaking at 30 mph Sunday night into Monday, may create blowing snow and reduce visibility on roadways such as M-32 and I-75. Residents should prepare for icy conditions and allow extra travel time.

Saturday’s high will reach 27 degrees, with snowfall intensifying in the evening. Up to 3 inches of fresh accumulation is expected overnight into Sunday. Sunday will see lingering snow showers, mainly in the morning, with temperatures in the mid-20s. By Monday, snow showers are likely to return with an additional 1 to 2 inches of accumulation and highs nearing 31 degrees.

The region will remain bitterly cold, with wind chills dropping as low as -3 degrees today and staying in the single digits overnight. Temperatures will gradually warm by Tuesday but snow chances persist, keeping road conditions slippery.

Motorists should check for updates and consider delaying non-essential travel during peak snow and wind conditions. Keep emergency supplies in vehicles and dress in layers to protect against frigid temperatures.
