Gaylord, Michigan – Lingering drizzle is fading from Northern Michigan this morning, but residents should brace for unusually cold overnight lows and the risk of patchy frost through Monday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, a high-pressure system is settling in, bringing mostly sunny skies and calmer conditions through midweek. Despite the sunshine, daytime highs will only reach the upper 50s and low 60s—well below average for mid-May.

Interior parts of Northern Michigan, especially rural counties away from the Great Lakes, may see patchy frost overnight Monday and into Tuesday morning as temperatures dip into the 30s. Drivers should be alert for slick spots during early commutes, and gardeners are urged to protect sensitive plants.

By Tuesday, clouds will begin to return with a chance of light showers by midweek. Monday remains the sunniest and driest day, with highs between 53°F and 65°F depending on location.

This unseasonably cool pattern is expected to hold into at least Wednesday. Additional frost advisories or updates may be issued if colder air persists inland.
