Grand Rapids, MI – Snow showers will persist across lower Michigan today, causing slick roads and potential travel delays, particularly along US-31. Drivers are urged to exercise caution as visibility may decrease during peak snow activity.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to taper off by this afternoon, but cloudy skies will linger overnight, with lows dipping to 23°F. Friday brings a brief reprieve with clearing skies and highs near 36°F, though gusty winds up to 24 mph could make it feel much colder.

Conditions will worsen over the weekend as lake-effect snow returns Sunday, accompanied by plummeting temperatures. Highs Sunday will struggle to reach 12°F, with wind chills dropping to -15°F by Sunday night. This pattern continues into Monday, with a high of only 6°F expected for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Road crews are working to address hazardous conditions, but residents are advised to allow extra travel time and maintain safe distances between vehicles. Pedestrians should also be cautious of icy sidewalks.

Looking ahead, forecasters predict snow accumulations could reach an inch through Sunday, especially near the lakeshore. Prepare for bitter cold next week, as frigid air dominates and travel impacts remain likely.
