Marquette, MI – A mix of freezing rain, drizzle, and patchy fog is set to impact Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Sunday night into Monday, potentially making roads slippery and travel hazardous. The National Weather Service warns of a glaze of ice developing, particularly across central and eastern parts of the U.P.

According to the National Weather Service Marquette office, the most significant impacts will likely occur late Sunday into early Monday, with temperatures hovering near freezing. South-central and eastern counties may see a thin coating of ice, especially on bridges, sidewalks, and untreated roads. Travelers should exercise caution along highways like M-28 and US-41, where icy patches could form overnight.

Sunday’s high is expected to reach 39 degrees, with light winds gusting up to 20 mph. Precipitation will start as drizzle or light freezing rain before transitioning to patchy fog overnight. By Monday, areas of drizzle will persist before tapering off by midday. Highs Monday will climb to around 40 degrees, but foggy conditions may continue during the morning hours.

Looking ahead, the forecast suggests mostly cloudy skies and calm weather for Tuesday, with highs near 31 degrees. However, snow showers are expected to return late Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing colder temperatures and minor accumulations. Highs Wednesday will drop to 26 degrees, with lows in the teens.

Drivers are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and delay non-essential travel if conditions worsen. Keep emergency supplies in your vehicle and allow extra time to reach your destination safely.
