Marquette, MI – A major lake effect snow event is set to impact the region this weekend, with heavy snow expected to continue through Sunday. Travelers are advised to take precautions, as the snow will create hazardous conditions along roadways and could significantly reduce visibility. According to the National Weather Service, snow bands are expected to affect the northwest snow belts, bringing up to 12 inches of snow to the area.

According to the NWS, the strongest snow accumulations will occur today and into Sunday, especially in areas west of Marquette. The snow will continue into Sunday evening, with temperatures hovering between 26°F and 32°F. Marquette’s snowfall could reach between 5 to 9 inches, and the forecast suggests snow showers will persist through the early part of next week.

Travelers on highways such as US-41 and M-28 are particularly urged to be cautious, as road conditions could worsen with falling snow and gusty winds. The NWS is predicting northwest winds with gusts of up to 25 mph, which will reduce visibility and make driving conditions more difficult. Drivers are advised to plan ahead, allowing extra travel time to account for potential delays.

The snow is expected to taper off by Tuesday, though light snow showers may persist through the day. Temperatures are predicted to rise slightly by mid-week, reaching the low 30s by Wednesday. Residents are advised to keep up with updates from local authorities to stay informed on road conditions and weather changes.

For more information on weather conditions and safety updates, keep an eye on the National Weather Service and local media outlets.
