Detroit, MI – Widespread rain is expected to drench Southeast Michigan starting Tuesday night, with up to 1.5 inches of rainfall possible through late Wednesday. Forecasters warn of minor flooding risks in urban areas, especially around Detroit.

According to the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac, moderate rain will spread across the region Tuesday evening, with totals ranging between 0.5 to 1.5 inches. Additional showers, and possibly thunderstorms, will continue into Wednesday, bringing up to a quarter inch of additional rainfall.

With the ground still frozen in many areas, runoff will likely cause rises in rivers and streams. Minor street flooding is expected, and some basement flooding may occur in urbanized areas.

Cities including Detroit, Flint, Saginaw, and Ann Arbor are expected to see significant rainfall. Motorists should remain cautious as water may collect on roads, especially in low-lying areas.

Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and avoid driving through flooded streets. The rain is expected to taper off by late Wednesday night.
