Detroit, Michigan – Southeast Michigan will bake under near 90-degree heat Wednesday before thunderstorms sweep through the region by mid-afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, showers are likely to begin after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a 60% chance of rain and isolated thunderstorms. Daytime highs could hit 88°F before the front pushes in, bringing a sharp change in conditions through Wednesday night and into early Thursday.

In the Detroit metro area—including Hamtramck, Royal Oak, and Dearborn—residents can expect cloud cover and possible evening lightning strikes. Winds may gust up to 24 mph Tuesday and Wednesday, creating an elevated risk for fallen limbs and brief outages. Commuters should plan for slower traffic during the evening rush due to slick roads.

Showers will likely continue into Thursday, with a chance of thunderstorms between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., followed by steady rain. Flash flooding isn’t currently expected, but low-lying areas could see ponding during heavier downpours. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, keep phones charged, and check drainage near homes.

Conditions improve by Friday, but another chance of rain returns early in the day. A return to mild, mostly sunny weather is expected by Saturday.
