Detroit, Michigan – A stretch of early summer heat will give way to thunderstorms across Southeast Michigan by Wednesday, with some storms potentially turning strong and gusty by the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, temperatures will climb into the upper 80s Tuesday and Wednesday, accompanied by wind gusts near 30 mph. A 70 to 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected Wednesday, mainly during the afternoon hours. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a marginal risk for severe weather across the region.

Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Pontiac will see the warmest temperatures on Tuesday, ranging from 83° to 88°, followed by increasing clouds and unstable air. Winds may create hazardous driving conditions, especially on I-94 and M-59. Wednesday’s storms could bring localized downpours and brief power outages.

Residents should secure outdoor items, charge electronics, and monitor alerts, especially if commuting Wednesday afternoon. Rain chances linger through Friday, potentially affecting evening plans and commutes.

Storm chances and elevated winds will remain in the forecast through late week. Further updates are expected by Tuesday night.
