Grand Rapids, MI – A strong cold front is sweeping into western Michigan Thursday night, bringing thunderstorms, high winds, and potential hazards through Friday morning. Residents around Grand Rapids should prepare for heavy downpours, lightning, and wind gusts of up to 45 mph, especially along major routes, including I-196 and US-131. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory, warning of gusts that could impact evening and early morning travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, rain will likely begin Thursday night, with gusty winds up to 26 mph. On Friday morning, there is an 80% chance of thunderstorms before noon, accompanied by wind gusts as high as 38 mph. These conditions could lead to slippery roads and reduced visibility, making cautious driving essential for early commuters.

As the front clears, expect temperatures to drop significantly, with Friday’s high around 53 degrees, dipping to a low of 40 degrees by evening. Saturday will bring sunny, cooler conditions with a high near 58, providing a brief reprieve from the rain. However, showers are likely to return on Sunday afternoon, continuing into the night.
