Detroit, MI – Southeastern Michigan residents should prepare for widespread rain starting Sunday, bringing up to two inches of rainfall and gusty winds. A low-pressure system is moving into the region, expected to significantly affect road conditions, particularly along major routes like I-75 and I-94.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, Sunday’s rainstorm will begin early in the morning and last throughout the day. Rainfall totals are projected to reach 1 to 2 inches, which may lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas. Gusty winds, reaching up to 22 mph, could reduce visibility for drivers. Residents planning to travel should monitor conditions and consider delaying trips during peak rainfall hours.

Temperatures will hover around the mid-50s on Sunday before dropping to the 40s by Monday. Monday will bring drier conditions with decreasing clouds, but cooler air will settle in, with highs in the mid-40s. Looking ahead to New Year’s Eve, colder air and a mix of rain and snow are expected, potentially creating slick roads for holiday travelers.

The five-day forecast predicts mostly cloudy skies and highs in the 40s through New Year’s Day. Overnight lows will dip into the low 30s, increasing the likelihood of frost or ice on untreated surfaces.
