Marquette, Michigan – Minor river flooding and a late-season mix of rain and snow could upend spring travel plans across Upper Michigan this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, showers and rapid snowmelt are raising flood concerns for typically flood-prone rivers through at least Monday. Residents in Marquette, Houghton, Iron, and Baraga counties should remain alert for rising water levels, especially near M-28 and M-41. Localized road impacts are possible as the region toggles between spring warmth and lingering winter patterns.

Thunderstorms are no longer in the forecast, but Wednesday through Friday brings a shifting pattern. Wednesday stays calm with sunny skies and highs near 52°F. However, clouds return Wednesday night, followed by a 50% chance of rain Thursday and likely showers Thursday night. Gusty winds may accompany the rain, adding to travel concerns on rural roads.

Friday brings the most dramatic twist: A rain-snow mix is expected by morning, possibly turning to all snow before tapering off in the afternoon. Morning commuters could encounter slushy conditions and poor visibility, particularly along elevated roads and shaded areas.

Flooding risk continues through Monday due to runoff from melting snow combined with repeated rainfall. Stay informed by monitoring local alerts and avoid flooded roadways.
