Marquette, MI – Residents in Marquette and Alger counties should prepare for intense lake-effect snow and frigid temperatures through Wednesday morning. Snow accumulations could reach 2-4 inches in localized areas, especially along the Lake Superior shoreline, creating hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the strongest snowfall of the week is expected today, with highs only in the teens to low 20s. Winds up to 25 mph will cause blowing snow, reducing visibility. Tonight, additional snowfall and overnight lows of 5 to 10 degrees are forecast, with wind chills dropping to subzero levels inland.

Light snow is expected to taper off Wednesday morning, though icy roadways could still create dangerous conditions. Motorists should allow extra travel time, particularly on Route 41 and smaller local roads. Those venturing outdoors are urged to dress in layers to protect against frostbite and hypothermia risks.

Looking ahead, temperatures are set to rise slightly by Thursday, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-20s. Friday brings a 30% chance of snow showers, with another potential system arriving Saturday.
