Detroit, Michigan – Heavier rain showers sweeping through southeast Michigan Sunday could trigger minor flooding in metro Detroit, especially south of the M-59 corridor, by evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall remains in place through midnight Sunday. Rain bands pushing in from the south began reaching I-69 early in the day and are expected to continue moving north through the evening. The most intense rainfall is forecast between 4 p.m. and midnight, with some areas potentially seeing up to 1.5 inches.

Communities including Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Monroe are likely to see the heaviest totals. Storm drains in low-lying neighborhoods may struggle to keep up, and minor flooding is possible on roadways and in underpasses, particularly along I-94 and near the Detroit River.

Drivers are urged to slow down during downpours and avoid flooded streets. Residents should check basement sump pumps and clear outdoor drains ahead of peak rainfall. Lighter rain will linger into Monday but should taper off entirely by Tuesday as the low-pressure system moves east.
