Marquette, Michigan – Elevated fire danger returns to Upper Michigan this week as gusty winds and low humidity grip the region starting Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, limited to elevated fire weather conditions are expected Tuesday and again Thursday and Friday. These concerns target inland areas, especially across Marquette, Baraga, Iron, and Luce Counties. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure ignition sources, and monitor local updates.

Dry and breezy weather will dominate Tuesday, with highs reaching the low 60s under partly cloudy skies. A 20% chance of showers may develop after 2 a.m. Wednesday, but conditions will remain largely dry, keeping fire risk high. Winds will pick up overnight, especially along key corridors like U.S. 41 and M-28.

Temperatures will drop into the low 40s Tuesday night before rebounding to a cooler high of 45°F on Wednesday. Thursday looks clear but colder, with highs only reaching 50°F before warming again into the 60s by Friday. These rapid shifts in humidity and wind continue to elevate fire concerns into the weekend.

While no fire weather warnings have been issued yet, Tuesday and Friday remain the most critical for fire activity potential. Officials do not currently require spotter reports.
