Gaylord, Michigan – The National Weather Service is urging caution across Michigan as dry conditions continue through early next week, elevating the risk of wildfires. A combination of light winds and dry air will fuel fire danger, with conditions remaining favorable for wildfire growth until Monday.

According to the NWS, breezy conditions will prevail today with variable winds, followed by stronger southerly winds on Sunday. These conditions, combined with an increasing warming trend, are expected to persist into Monday, increasing the likelihood of fire development.

In particular, areas from Gaylord to Traverse City may see humidity levels dipping into the dangerous 20-30% range over the next few days, putting vegetation and unburned areas at risk. Residents in these regions are urged to avoid outdoor burning and take steps to prevent fires from spreading.

Saturday night will bring colder temperatures, with inland areas experiencing possible frost, while lakeshore areas may see lows in the mid-30s. Temperatures will rise through Sunday, leading to milder nights and a continued elevated fire risk.

Fire danger warnings will remain in effect, with more advisories possible if conditions worsen.
