Marquette, MI – Lake effect snow showers combined with a clipper system are expected to impact Michigan’s Upper Peninsula today, with accumulations of up to six inches in some areas. The National Weather Service (NWS) advises travelers to prepare for delays and slippery conditions, particularly along M-28 and near the Mackinac Bridge.

According to the NWS, snow showers will intensify through the day, with the highest accumulations east of Manistique. Residents in the eastern Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula may see 4 to 6 inches of snow by evening. Slippery road conditions are likely, especially for those commuting or traveling between Michigan’s peninsulas.

Today’s high temperatures will range from 30 to 35 degrees, dropping to overnight lows of 14 to 23 degrees, with colder conditions inland. Snow is expected to taper off by Tuesday, with partly sunny skies and highs near 31 degrees. Christmas Day will bring mostly sunny weather, with a high near 32 degrees and calm conditions across the region.

The NWS warns that holiday travelers should remain vigilant, particularly along major routes like US-2 and M-28, where icy patches may persist through the morning. Residents are encouraged to monitor local updates for changing conditions.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to rise later this week, reaching highs near 40 degrees by Friday, with rain showers possible into the weekend.
