Grand Rapids, MI – Freezing rain is causing slick road conditions Sunday morning across parts of Michigan, particularly north of I-96, creating hazardous travel for early commuters. Rain and icy patches will persist through late morning before temperatures rise, transitioning to all rain later in the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Sunday. Icy spots may develop on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads, especially in areas with temperatures hovering near freezing. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and allow extra time for travel.

Temperatures will climb into the upper 30s to mid-40s by Sunday afternoon, melting ice and providing some relief. Winds will remain light but gusts up to 20 mph could create visibility issues during showers.

Looking ahead, the start of the workweek brings rain showers Monday with temperatures nearing 49 degrees before dipping to the mid-30s overnight. Tuesday will be drier and mostly cloudy with a high around 38, though rain and snow showers may return late Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Wednesday will likely see a mix of rain and snow, with highs near 37 degrees. By midweek, colder air will settle over the region, dropping overnight lows to the low 20s.

Residents should prepare for changing road conditions throughout the week and stay updated on forecast adjustments. Motorists are encouraged to check for travel delays and winter weather updates.
