Grand Rapids, Michigan – Strong storms with large hail and damaging winds will push through southwest Michigan Friday evening, setting up a colder, unsettled week ahead.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, a cold front will trigger a second round of storms Friday night, mainly impacting areas north of I-96. Storms could bring hail up to one inch in diameter, cloud-to-ground lightning, and wind gusts exceeding 40 mph. Travelers along I-96 and surrounding counties should avoid driving during evening hours and secure outdoor items before storms hit.

Saturday brings drier air but not warmth. Highs will dip into the mid-50s, with mostly cloudy skies dominating. Sunday stays cooler, topping out near 60°F, and scattered showers will return by evening.

Monday and Tuesday remain unsettled. Showers are likely both days, with another round of cooler air pushing in. By Tuesday night, temperatures may fall into the upper 30s — bringing a risk of frost, especially in rural areas. Gardeners and growers should monitor forecasts closely and protect tender plants.

No hazardous weather is expected midweek, but conditions stay breezy and below average through Thursday.
