Detroit, Michigan – Spring storms will slam into Southeast Michigan on Friday, soaking the Detroit metro area and bringing potential travel hazards on I-94 through the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop after 2 p.m. Friday, intensifying by 5 p.m. with rainfall totals nearing half an inch in some areas. South winds may gust up to 24 mph, especially along I-94 and near the riverfront. Drivers should avoid non-essential travel late Friday as visibility could drop and wet roads may become slick.
Friday night, the threat continues with more thunderstorms possible before midnight. Temperatures will fall sharply to the upper 40s as a cool front pushes in from the west.
Saturday brings a brief reprieve. A 30% chance of morning showers gives way to partly sunny skies and a cooler high near 57°F. Winds remain breezy from the northwest. By Sunday, sunshine returns but expect a chilly start—morning lows in Detroit and surrounding areas like Hamtramck and Dearborn could dip into the mid-40s.
Looking ahead to next week, Monday offers mostly sunny skies with a return to 70s warmth. However, another round of spring rain is likely Tuesday into Wednesday. Rainfall may begin after 2 a.m. Tuesday and continue off and on through Wednesday afternoon.
