Detroit, MI – An arctic air mass is sweeping through Southeast Michigan, bringing lake effect snow showers and single-digit wind chills. Areas south of I-69, including Flint and Pontiac, are likely to see one to two inches of snow accumulation by Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Detroit/Pontiac, icy road conditions are expected through Wednesday morning as temperatures dip into the teens and single digits. Gusty winds up to 25 mph will create a bitter cold, making driving and walking hazardous. Bridges and untreated surfaces will be particularly icy, posing a danger to commuters and pedestrians. Residents should drive cautiously, keep emergency kits in their vehicles, and bundle up against frostbite risks.

On Tuesday, snow showers will continue throughout the morning with highs reaching only 21 degrees and wind chills plunging to 10 degrees. Conditions improve slightly by Wednesday as the snow tapers off, but temperatures will remain cold, ranging from 9 to 25 degrees. Light snow returns Thursday with highs near 32 degrees.

Drivers along major routes like I-75 and I-94 should remain alert to changing conditions and allow extra time for travel. Stay updated by monitoring forecasts and checking local road reports. Pedestrians are urged to use extra caution on sidewalks and steps.

Prepare for a week of winter weather challenges, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets to ensure their safety.
