Gaylord, MI – Wet and dense snow is expected to blanket parts of northern Michigan today, impacting travel across the region. A clipper system will bring snow to areas including the eastern Upper Peninsula and the Tip of the Mitt region. Drivers should prepare for slick and messy roads, as conditions are forecast to deteriorate this afternoon with a wintry mix transitioning to rain in many areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Gaylord, snowfall will intensify through the morning before changing into rain or a wintry mix by late afternoon. Up to six inches of accumulation is possible in some areas, with reduced visibility in heavier snow bands. Roads, particularly along US-131 and M-32, may become hazardous, and drivers are urged to leave extra travel time and use caution.

Sunday and Monday bring more winter challenges, with freezing rain and additional snow showers predicted. A larger storm system is expected to move into the region late Sunday into Monday, potentially creating treacherous conditions into next week.

Highs today will reach 36°F, with temperatures hovering near freezing overnight. Sunday will bring similar highs, with icy conditions likely in the morning. By Tuesday, more snow is expected, with lows dropping into the teens by midweek.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours. For updates, visit weather.gov/gaylord or follow the National Weather Service on social media.
