Marquette, MI – Lake-effect snow continues to create hazardous conditions across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, with heavy snow and strong winds expected to persist through Saturday. Residents and travelers should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, including reduced visibility and icy roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, northwest winds will drive scattered snow showers through Friday evening, with peak activity expected near snow belts along US-41. Wind chills could drop to near 0°F Friday, with daytime highs struggling to reach 20°F. Gusts up to 30 mph are expected, adding to the risk of blowing snow and difficult travel conditions.

On Friday, snow showers are likely before noon, with patchy blowing snow further reducing visibility. Overnight temperatures will plunge to between 0°F and 14°F, particularly in interior areas west of Marquette. By Saturday, highs will range from 8°F to 20°F, with skies clearing slightly but wind chills remaining severe.

Sunday brings a brief reprieve with partly sunny skies and highs near 22°F, though another round of scattered snow showers is possible by evening.

Travelers are urged to monitor local updates and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall periods. If venturing out, ensure vehicles are equipped with emergency supplies and allow extra travel time. Those in exposed areas should dress in layers to prevent frostbite, as wind chill values will feel significantly colder.
