Detroit, MI – Michigan residents are advised to prepare for intense weather today as a strong cold front brings thunderstorms and gusty winds to the region. Wind speeds could reach up to 40 mph this afternoon, with thunderstorms likely. A Gale Warning is in effect for Lake Huron, with waves as high as 15 feet expected, posing hazards for mariners and those near the shoreline.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, southwest winds will intensify, peaking this evening as the cold front sweeps across Southeast Michigan. Showers and thunderstorms are likely this afternoon, with rain expected to exit the area by early evening. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and drive cautiously, especially along major roads like I-75 and I-94, where gusty winds could impact visibility and vehicle control.

Weekend Weather Outlook: Cooler, Clearer Conditions Expected

Following today’s storms, Friday and Saturday are expected to bring calmer, cooler weather, with highs in the mid-50s. Clear skies will prevail, and winds are expected to weaken, creating ideal conditions for outdoor activities. Saturday night temperatures could dip into the mid-30s, so residents should prepare for the colder air by layering up if planning to spend time outdoors.

By Sunday, showers are anticipated to return, with another chance for rain by evening. Highs will reach the upper 50s, continuing the cooler trend into next week.

For those planning outdoor activities or travel this weekend, Friday and Saturday are expected to be the most favorable days.
