Grand Rapids, MI – A snowy weekend is ahead for much of Michigan, with several inches of accumulation expected to impact travel along key roadways, including I-96 and I-94. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the western half of the state, effective until Saturday at 7 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service, snow showers will intensify Friday evening, bringing an additional 1-2 inches overnight. Temperatures will hover between 28-32°F, leading to slick roads and low visibility. Winds gusting up to 26 mph could create blowing snow, further reducing visibility on highways and side streets. Residents are urged to drive cautiously and allow extra time for travel.
Saturday will see continued snowfall, with a 50% chance of accumulation during the day and highs near 30°F. Gusty winds may persist, making outdoor activities less favorable. By Saturday night, conditions are expected to calm slightly, though a 40% chance of snow showers remains.
Sunday is shaping up to be partly sunny, with highs near 33°F, though afternoon snow showers could bring light accumulation. Drivers heading out late Sunday or Monday should prepare for another round of snow showers likely to arrive early next week.
The extended forecast suggests more snowfall into Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures remaining cold and lows dipping into the mid-20s. Those planning post-holiday travel should check updates regularly and be ready for winter weather conditions to persist.
