Marquette, MI – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on Wednesday, bringing up to 24 inches of snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions. A Winter Storm Warning takes effect from 7 p.m. Tuesday through 1 a.m. Thursday, with snowfall expected to intensify by Wednesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Marquette, travel could become nearly impossible in some areas, especially along US-41, as wind gusts reach up to 40 mph. Snow accumulation is expected to range from 10 to 20 inches, with localized totals of up to 24 inches in higher elevations north of US-41. Winds will create blowing and drifting snow, reducing visibility on the roads.
In addition to the snowstorm, a Lakeshore Flood Advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday for Marquette and Alger counties. Rising lake levels and strong winds could cause minor flooding along the shoreline, impacting low-lying roads and properties.
