Memphis, TN – Severe storms are expected to impact Tennessee from Friday night through Saturday, bringing the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an enhanced to moderate risk alert across much of the state, with the highest risk in northern Tennessee.
According to the NWS Memphis office, a Level 4 (moderate) risk is in effect for parts of northwest Tennessee on Friday night, including areas near Dyersburg and Union City. A Level 3 (enhanced) risk covers a broader area, including Memphis, Jackson, and Corinth. The storms are expected to move from the southwest to the northeast, bringing widespread severe weather threats.
By Saturday, the risk will shift slightly eastward, with much of Tennessee remaining under a Level 3 or Level 2 (slight) risk. The greatest threats include damaging winds exceeding 60 mph, isolated tornadoes, and large hail. Heavy rain may also contribute to localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive alerts, and prepare for potential power outages. The NWS advises securing outdoor objects and reviewing emergency plans ahead of the storms.
