Memphis, TN – A Memphis Police Department officer and a civilian were pronounced dead following a fatal crash and shooting early Friday morning at the intersection of Mississippi Boulevard and Danny Thomas Boulevard. Officers responded to the scene at 3:06 a.m. after reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a gray Nissan and an MPD squad car.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found three injured males, including two MPD officers and the driver of the Nissan. All three were transported to Regional One Hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save them, one officer and the driver of the Nissan were pronounced dead at the hospital. The second officer remains in critical condition, with his prognosis currently unclear.
According to preliminary investigations, the driver of the Nissan was also suffering from a gunshot wound at the time of the crash. Authorities are still determining the cause of the collision and the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has taken the lead in investigating the collision, while the Memphis Police Department’s Homicide Bureau is focusing on the shooting.
