Memphis, TN – Showers and thunderstorms will dominate the Memphis area this week, with heavy rainfall expected Monday and gusty winds creating hazardous conditions. Residents should prepare for slick roads, reduced visibility, and possible travel delays, particularly during morning and evening commutes.
According to the National Weather Service, Monday brings widespread showers with thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. Winds will strengthen from the south at 15-25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph. The chance of precipitation sits at 90%, with new rainfall totals between a quarter and half an inch possible. Drivers on I-40 and I-55 should exercise caution during peak travel hours.
Monday night could see lingering storms, especially northeast of Memphis. Temperatures will drop to a low near 47°F as winds shift from southwest to northeast overnight. Showers remain a possibility through Tuesday morning, clearing slightly by the afternoon with a 30% chance of rain. Highs will hover around 61°F.
Tuesday night’s forecast calls for another round of heavier showers, primarily after midnight. Steady rainfall could produce an additional half to three-quarters of an inch, raising concerns for localized flooding in low-lying areas.
By Wednesday, conditions remain wet, with showers likely and potential afternoon thunderstorms. Highs will peak at 59°F before cooler air moves in Wednesday night, with lows plummeting to 32°F.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates, avoid standing water while driving, and allow extra travel time during commutes.
