Boston, MA – Residents in Massachusetts should prepare for a mix of rain, snow, and rapidly dropping temperatures starting late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Commuters, especially along I-90 and other key roadways, are urged to allow extra travel time as wet roads may turn slick in colder areas.
According to the National Weather Service, a fast-moving system will bring 0.25-1 inch of rain across much of the region. Northwest Massachusetts and higher elevations could see snow accumulations of up to 2 inches overnight. Temperatures are expected to drop into the 30s by early Thursday, creating a risk of icy spots for the morning commute.
Thursday will clear up with mostly sunny skies, but winds from the northwest could gust up to 22 mph, keeping conditions brisk. Highs will hover around 44°F, with temperatures falling again to near 28°F overnight.
Looking ahead, another round of winter weather is expected late Friday into Saturday morning. Snow showers are likely Friday night, with accumulations of 1 to 2 inches possible in parts of the region. Highs on Saturday will reach only 33°F, with a chance for lingering snow showers. Sunday will bring drier but much colder weather, with a daytime high of just 22°F and lows dropping to 15°F overnight.
Residents are encouraged to drive cautiously during morning commutes and monitor local weather updates for any changes. With a winter storm system returning for the weekend, shovels and ice scrapers may be needed once again.
