Boston, MA – A winter storm is set to impact much of southern New England starting this evening and continuing through Sunday morning, bringing 5 to 9 inches of snow across the region. According to the National Weather Service Boston, snow will begin lightly but quickly intensify, reaching moderate to heavy rates of up to 1 inch per hour. Snowfall will move west to east, with onset times between 7 and 9 p.m. for western Massachusetts and Connecticut, 8 to 10 p.m. for central Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and 9 to 11 p.m. for coastal eastern Massachusetts.
Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly as roads become snow-covered. The heaviest snowfall will occur overnight into early Sunday morning, with a chance of more than 0.5 inches per hour. Snow will begin to taper off between 7 a.m. and noon on Sunday, with some areas seeing a brief transition to freezing rain or light rain before the storm exits.
