Boston, Massachusetts – Skies over Boston could deliver a rare show Sunday night as a potential Aurora Borealis display coincides with clearing conditions — just ahead of a sharp midweek warm-up bringing the city’s first major heat wave of the season.
According to the National Weather Service, decreasing clouds will give way to mostly clear skies by tonight, creating optimal viewing for the northern lights after 10 p.m. While visibility will depend on solar activity and light pollution, the Boston area may catch faint aurora bands, especially in darker suburbs to the north and west.
Sunday’s high will top out near 65°F with breezy west winds up to 17 mph, gusting to 28. Overnight lows will fall to the low 50s, making for crisp, clear conditions overnight.
Starting Monday, temperatures begin to rise — reaching 72°F under mostly sunny skies, then jumping to 79°F Tuesday. By Wednesday, highs near 88°F will push the region into heat wave territory, peaking Thursday around 90°F.
Residents are urged to plan for heat precautions midweek: hydrate, limit outdoor exposure, and check in on older adults. No advisories are in effect yet, but that could change as humidity builds.
Stay tuned for updates, including potential heat alerts and continued skywatch opportunities.
