Massachusetts – A rare November heat wave is sweeping across Massachusetts, bringing near-record highs and an urgent Red Flag fire warning for Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 78°F in parts of southern New England, and combined with strong winds, this unusual warmth poses a significant fire risk. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and be vigilant, as any fires that start could spread quickly in these dry conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boston, the Red Flag warning covers most of Massachusetts and runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Winds from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph, are expected to contribute to elevated fire risks, especially across interior areas. Relative humidity levels will drop as low as 52%, further intensifying the potential for rapid fire spread.

Extended Weather Forecast:

Thursday: The heat will ease slightly, with highs around 69°F and clear skies. Winds will come from the northwest at 6 to 8 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny with cooler temperatures around 63°F. Gusts could reach up to 25 mph, keeping the air breezy.

Saturday: Highs near 54°F with calm northwest winds. The day should remain sunny and dry.

Sunday: Partly sunny with a high around 60°F. Rain is expected to arrive late at night, bringing relief to dry conditions.

Veterans Day (Monday): Showers likely with a high near 64°F. This increased moisture may help ease fire risks in the region.

Residents are advised to remain cautious with any open flames and report suspicious smoke to local authorities. As unseasonably warm temperatures combine with gusty winds, Massachusetts remains on high alert for potential wildfires.
