Garrett County, MD – A winter weather advisory remains in effect across western Maryland and parts of West Virginia until noon Thursday, with significant snowfall and high winds expected.

According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations could range between 3 and 6 inches, with higher totals likely above 2,500 feet. Wind gusts reaching 50 mph will worsen visibility and create dangerous travel conditions on major routes like Interstate 68 and US-40.

Hazardous conditions are expected to peak during the overnight and early morning hours, with snowfall rates up to one inch per hour in embedded snow squalls. Freezing fog and wind chills as low as -10 degrees will exacerbate risks. Power outages may occur due to snow-laden tree limbs and high winds.

Residents are urged to limit travel and dress warmly if venturing outdoors. The National Weather Service advises wearing layered clothing and covering exposed skin to prevent frostbite. Drivers should exercise caution, as roads and bridges are likely to become slick.

For updated road conditions, call 511. Stay informed and prepared as the storm continues to develop.
