Garrett County, MD – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Garrett County and surrounding areas from Friday evening through Saturday night. Up to 6 inches of snow, combined with 40 mph wind gusts, is expected to create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, light to moderate snow will begin Friday evening, continuing into Saturday. Accumulations of 2-4 inches are forecast, with higher totals possible in elevated areas. Winds are expected to cause blowing snow, which may result in significant drifting and low visibility.

Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the advisory period. Roads, bridges, and overpasses will likely become slick and hazardous. The Maryland Department of Transportation advises checking 511 for real-time road conditions.

Saturday will see continued snow showers, tapering off by the evening. Highs will remain in the low 20s, while wind chills dip into the single digits. Sunday brings relief, with sunny skies and highs near 27. However, another chance of snow arrives Monday, as temperatures remain below freezing.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for icy conditions on driveways, sidewalks, and stairs. Use caution to avoid slips and falls, especially when stepping outdoors.
