Baltimore, MD – A powerful winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain to Maryland through Tuesday morning. Residents should prepare for hazardous travel conditions as snow accumulations could reach up to 16 inches in isolated areas.
According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday for Baltimore and surrounding regions. Snowfall rates of up to 3 inches per hour are anticipated during peak periods Monday morning. A brief lull is expected late Monday morning, but snow and sleet will resume in the afternoon and persist into the evening. Gusty winds, reaching up to 28 mph, are predicted to make driving treacherous on major routes, including I-95 and US-1.
Untreated roads may become impassable during periods of heavy snowfall. Authorities are advising against non-essential travel and urging motorists to use extreme caution. If travel is unavoidable, residents are encouraged to carry an emergency kit, including water, a flashlight, and blankets.
Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing through Friday, with daytime highs ranging from 19 to 34 degrees. Gusty winds will continue into midweek, making conditions feel even colder. Tuesday will see partly sunny skies, but the cold snap persists with highs around 34 and lows in the teens.
The storm could disrupt daily commutes, delay services, and pose risks to public safety. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from local officials and check on neighbors who may need assistance during the storm.
