Baltimore, MD – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday for Garrett County, Maryland, as well as Western Grant and Western Pendleton counties in West Virginia. The National Weather Service warns of snow accumulations between 2 to 5 inches, with wind gusts reaching up to 55 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected to transition into snow by midnight, with snow showers persisting throughout Thursday. The highest snowfall amounts will be at elevations above 3,000 feet, where brief whiteout conditions are possible due to strong winds and blowing snow.

The hazardous conditions may impact both the Thursday morning and evening commutes, creating slippery roads and reducing visibility. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously, as the combination of snow and gusty winds could lead to dangerous travel conditions. Additionally, the strong winds may cause tree damage and power outages in affected areas.

Residents in Garrett, Grant, and Pendleton counties should prepare for winter driving conditions and allow extra travel time. Officials urge travelers to slow down and use caution on the roads. For the latest updates on road conditions, call 511 in your state.
