Garrett County, MD – A winter storm warning remains in effect for Garrett County and parts of West Virginia until 7 a.m. Friday. Residents are bracing for additional snow accumulations of up to one inch and light ice from freezing drizzle overnight.

According to the National Weather Service, gusty winds reaching 40 mph will compound the hazardous conditions, creating the potential for fallen tree branches and power outages. Freezing drizzle is expected to persist intermittently throughout the morning hours, contributing to icy roads and dangerous travel conditions.

The warning also includes Western Grant and Western Pendleton counties in West Virginia, where similar conditions are being reported. Authorities caution that travel may be difficult, especially during Friday morning commutes.

Travelers are advised to carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights, in case of delays. Updated road conditions can be accessed by dialing 511. Officials urge caution while driving, particularly on untreated roads.

Light snow is forecast to taper off before sunrise, but freezing drizzle will remain a concern through the morning.
