Baltimore, MD – Residents across Maryland should prepare for bitterly cold conditions through midweek as temperatures remain well below average. Highs today will struggle to climb above 22°F, with wind chills dropping as low as -10°F in some areas. Snow flurries and occasional light snow showers may develop this afternoon and evening, creating slick spots on roadways, especially during the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service, a cold weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday for central and northern Maryland, as well as portions of Virginia. Frostbite and hypothermia risks are significant for anyone spending prolonged periods outdoors without proper protection. Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities, dress in layers, and check on elderly neighbors and pets.
Wednesday will bring slightly calmer weather, with increasing sunshine expected throughout the day. However, temperatures will remain frigid, with highs near 21°F and lows around 15°F. Winds will be light but still enough to contribute to dangerous wind chills.
By Thursday, conditions begin to improve as highs reach 32°F under partly cloudy skies. Overnight lows will still hover near 19°F, so frost precautions remain necessary. Friday will see more significant warming, with sunny skies and highs reaching 33°F, offering some relief from the deep freeze.
Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday is forecast to bring highs in the mid-30s under mostly sunny skies, followed by another cold night with lows around 28°F. Sunday may bring a mix of rain and snow as temperatures hover near 36°F during the day and drop to 31°F overnight.
Drivers should remain cautious on roads, especially during evenings, when freezing temperatures can lead to icy patches. Stay updated on local forecasts to plan accordingly and stay safe.
