ANNANDALE, Va. – A brisk west wind sweeps across the Potomac this morning, stirring the last of the golden leaves through quiet suburban streets. The air feels crisp but calm — a welcome shift after a blustery Tuesday that brought gusts near 30 mph and choppy conditions on the Chesapeake and tidal Potomac.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, Gale Warnings remain in effect through early Wednesday for marine zones but conditions will quickly improve by daybreak. Inland, skies stay mostly clear as a ridge of high pressure settles over the mid-Atlantic, setting the stage for several days of classic fall weather.

Temperatures will climb into the upper 50s by Thursday and near 60°F by Friday under steady sunshine. Winds diminish, and humidity remains low — ideal for leaf cleanup, outdoor work, or early holiday travel around I-95 and I-66. Lows dip to the mid-30s, cool but frost-free for most of Fairfax, Arlington, and Montgomery counties.

The next change comes late Saturday when a weak front may bring scattered light rain, mainly west of the D.C. metro. The system will be brief, clearing quickly Sunday as highs rebound toward 68°F — unseasonably warm for mid-November.

Looking ahead, long-range models keep the region dry and mild into early Thanksgiving week, offering one of the most stable stretches of late-fall weather in recent years. For now, residents can expect blue skies, light winds, and a calm lead-in to the holiday season — a well-timed break in the weather before winter patterns begin to stir farther north.
