Washington, D.C. – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, with snow and icy conditions expected to impact travel through Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations of up to one inch are expected in the Washington, D.C. metro area, including Charles, Calvert, and Stafford counties, with roads becoming slick during both the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.
Further west, Garrett County, Maryland, and parts of western Virginia and West Virginia could see up to three inches of snow, accompanied by wind gusts up to 50 mph. These conditions could lead to hazardous travel and potential power outages due to downed tree branches.
Officials urge drivers to use caution and allow extra travel time. Surface temperatures will drop into the teens and low 20s, increasing the risk of icy roads and sidewalks. The advisory for most areas expires by 11 a.m. Thursday, while higher elevations remain under alert until 7 a.m. Friday.
