Baltimore, Md. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to move across central and eastern Maryland this afternoon, bringing a risk of damaging winds to areas along and east of I-95, including Baltimore, Waldorf, and Annapolis.

According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, a cold front pushing through the region Saturday will trigger showers and scattered storms, with a few reaching severe levels. The main threat is wind gusts topping 50 mph, especially in areas from Washington, D.C. to the Chesapeake Bay. Storm activity is expected to peak between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Cities such as Gaithersburg, Alexandria, and Fredericksburg could also see localized power outages or downed tree limbs. Afternoon highs will reach the upper 70s and low 80s ahead of the front, creating unstable conditions. Officials urge residents to secure loose outdoor items and remain weather-aware through the evening.

Travelers along I-95 and I-70 should plan for reduced visibility and sudden wind shifts during downpours. Stay indoors during any warnings and charge devices ahead of potential outages.

Storms are expected to taper off late tonight, but additional alerts may be issued if conditions intensify.
