Baltimore, MD – Parts of Maryland and northern Virginia are under a Flood Watch today as forecasters warn of possible flash flooding from strong evening storms.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office, the alert will be in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday. Areas at risk include Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Leesburg, and Charlottesville—regions east of the Blue Ridge and Catoctin Mountains.

Heavy Rain May Cause Rapid Flooding in Urban Areas

Forecasters expect repeated storms across the region, with rainfall totals between 2 to 3 inches possible. This could quickly flood streets, streams, and low-lying areas, especially in cities and near major highways.

Emergency officials urge residents to stay alert and avoid flooded roads overnight. Nighttime flooding is especially dangerous due to limited visibility and fast-rising water.

Main travel routes such as I-95, I-66, and I-270 could be affected. Drivers are encouraged to check road conditions before heading out and follow any posted detours or closures.

If the forecast worsens, parts of the region may shift from a watch to a Flash Flood Warning. Officials recommend following local weather updates closely and taking early precautions.

Always remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.
