Frederick, MD – Freezing rain is expected to create hazardous travel conditions across north-central Maryland on Christmas Eve.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 1 p.m. Tuesday. Light ice accumulations are expected, making roads, bridges, and overpasses slippery, especially during the morning commute in Frederick, Carroll, and Howard counties.
Road crews are pre-treating major highways, but untreated surfaces, including sidewalks, are likely to remain icy. Drivers are advised to reduce speeds, allow extra travel time, and use caution on all roadways. The freezing rain is expected to transition to light rain by mid-afternoon as temperatures rise above freezing.
The forecast improves after Tuesday, with mild weather expected for Christmas Day. Temperatures will reach the low 40s on Wednesday, followed by partly sunny conditions through the end of the week. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and check road conditions through Maryland’s 511 system.
