Maryland – The first deep chill of December has settled over Baltimore and much of the Mid-Atlantic, with crystal-clear skies and frosty air greeting early risers this morning. But the calm won’t last long. A developing midweek system is tracking eastward, bringing a chance of rain and snow by Wednesday before temperatures drop sharply again toward the weekend.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington expect highs around 36°F Tuesday before clouds increase Tuesday night. By Wednesday, a mix of rain and snow could develop across central Maryland, especially near and north of the I-70 corridor. Roads may become slick during the late-day commute as colder air filters in.
Behind the system, temperatures will hover near freezing through Friday with morning lows in the 20s and occasional gusts creating a biting wind chill. While major accumulation isn’t likely, forecasters say this setup marks an early “winter tease” for the Mid-Atlantic — a sign of colder, stormier patterns building through mid-December.
Heading into the weekend, expect partly sunny skies and highs near 40°F, perfect for outdoor errands or early holiday decorating, though another chance of light snow could return by late Saturday.
